Biography

Miikkulainen's research interests include (1) Cognitive Science, i.e. models of schema-based vision, concept learning, and natural language processing; (2) Computational Neuroscience, especially development, plasticity, and function of the visual cortex, and episodic memory; (3) Neuroevolution, i.e. evolving neural networks with genetic algorithms. Miikkulainen is a Professor in the Department of Computer Sciences.
