He received his Ph.D. in Brain and Cognitive Sciences from the University of Rochesester in 2007, where his research centered on Bayesian models of perceptual cue integration and perceptual learning. His current research in Dr. Geisler's lab uses ideal observer models to characterize the roles of peripheral vision and saccades in visual search, while his research in Dr. Seidemann's lab focuses on population coding in primate primary visual cortex.Melchi has recently accepted a position at Rutgers University (New Brunswick) and will be starting his own lab in the Fall of 2012.
