Project GO! Summer Programs

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense

ROTC students at institutions of higher education studying Arabic, Russian, or Turkish (and attaining 2nd year proficiency) are eligible to apply for the Project GO! Summer Programs. 

Interested students should read more about Project GO! on the program website. ROTC students ready to apply to the summer program can find out more about the programs in Russia, Morroco, or Turkey below!

Project GO! Summer Program in RUSSIA

Program information:

  • Program dates: June 4 - Aug 5, 2013 (Summer abroad, 8-weeks) in Moscow
  • Cost: Program costs are covered by Project GO! Students are responsible for non-program related expenses only
  • Eligibility: Open to ROTC students across the U.S. with second-year equivalency in Russian by May 2013 in good academic standing
  • Classes: Russian language classes at the intermediate level at Moscow International University (MIU)

How to apply:

The deadline for applications to the summer program in Moscow is January 18, 2013. In order to enroll in the Project GO! Summer Program in Moscow, complete the following steps:

  1. Fill out and submit a completed online application form as soon as possible, which includes a 300-500 word essay on your interest in the program (except UT students already enrolled in the program-- see below).
    • UT students who submitted the application form in Fall 2012 for the academic year portion of the Project GO! Program should send an email to Tamara Kowalski <tkowalski@utexas.edu> expressing continued interest in participating in the summer program AND including their passport number and expiration date, in lieu of completing another online application form.
    • NOTE: All chosen participants must have a passport that expires AFTER January 1, 2014 in order to meet visa requirements for the program.
  2. Send the following materials by email with subject line: "Project GO! Application: YOUR NAME" to Tamara Kowalski <tkowalski@utexas.edu> (references can be sent directly from the language instructor and ROTC Commander to this address):
    • Fall semester grades in your Russian language class (UT students should submit a pdf file of their online grade report; students at other institutions of higher education should send a pdf file of their unofficial transcript)
    • A letter of reference from your current Russian language instructor (signed, on letterhead, in pdf format)
    • A letter of reference from your ROTC Commander (signed, on letterhead, in pdf format)

Project GO! Summer Program in MORROCO

Program information:

  • Tentative Program dates: June 3 – July 26, 2013 (Summer abroad, 8-weeks) in Meknes, Morocco
  • Cost: Program costs are covered by Project GO! Students may be responsible for visa fees and non-program related expenses
  • Eligibility: Open to ROTC students across the U.S. with second-year standing in Arabic by May 2013 in good academic standing
  • Classes: Arabic language classes at the intermediate or advanced level at the Arab American Language Institute in Morocco (AALIM) in Meknes, Morocco

How to apply:

The deadline for applications to the summer program in Morocco is January 18, 2013. In order to enroll in the Project GO! Summer Program in Morocco, complete the following steps:

  1. Fill out and submit a completed online application form as soon as possible, which includes a 300-500 word essay on your interest in the program (except UT students already enrolled in the program-- see below).
    • UT students who submitted the application form in Fall 2012 for the academic year portion of the Project GO! Program should send an email to Maggie Bell <mbell@austin.utexas.edu> expressing continued interest in participating in the summer program AND including their passport number and expiration date, in lieu of completing another online application form.

Program information:

  • Program dates: June 24 - Aug 7, 2013 (Summer abroad, 8-weeks) in Istanbul, Turkey
  • Cost: Program costs are covered by Project GO! Students are responsible for non-program related expenses only
  • Eligibility: Open to ROTC students across the U.S. with second-year equivalency in Turkish by May 2013 in good academic standing
  • Classes: Turkish language classes at the intermediate level at Boğaziçi University

How to apply:

The deadline for applications to the summer program in Morocco is January 18, 2013. In order to enroll in the Project GO! Summer Program in Morocco, complete the following steps:

  1. Fill out and submit a completed online application form as soon as possible, which includes a 300-500 word essay on your interest in the program (except UT students already enrolled in the program-- see below).
