Course Description
The aim of this course is to serve as an introduction to Bulgarian language and culture through practical language classes and group discussions on different aspects of Bulgarian history, society and everyday life with a professional historian and native-speaker. The course is aimed at developing certain language skills (both reading and speaking) through lectures and exercises on original Bulgarian materials (mainly from current newspapers available on the Internet) and English language books and commentaries. Grades will be based on attendance and participation, one paper (comparative country profile on a certain aspect of Bulgarian history, culture or society), one group assignment, one grammar test and one final country-facts quiz (with multiple-choice questions).
