Course Description
For almost 70 years the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was a powerful and influential player on the world stage. Because it is often only focused on as a participant in WWII and the Cold War, however, many students fail to comprehend the diversity and multifaceted nature of the land that makes up the former Soviet Union and the peoples that inhabit it. This course will help broaden students' understanding of this integral region of the world, with an examination of such problems and issues as ethnic tension, economic restructuring, and the quality of life. Fulfills the basic Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies. Requirement in Sociology, Geography, and Anthropology.
