Course Description
The objective of this course is to increase advanced reading and conversation skills through close reading and discussion of the major short works by Russian and Soviet writers of the second half of the twentieth-century. Background lectures by the instructor will be kept to a minimum to allow maximum student conversation. All readings, class discussion and written assignments are in Russian.
Grading Policy
Course requirements: The class meets 3 times a week. Students are expected to prepare 3-4 pages of text for discussions at each class meeting. Evaluation: There will be both graded and ungraded written assignments. Final grades will be based on preparation and participation (50%), graded writing assignments (35%), and final oral exam (15%).
