Course Description
This course is designed to acquire advanced oral and written skills of discussing current events of social, economic, political and art life in the Russian language. Major aspects of modern Russian society will be analyzed with the use of mass media (sredstva massovoy informatsii), including Russian newspaper and magazine articles, TV shows and radio programs. The course consists of a mixture of lectures by the instructor and discussion sessions in which all students are required to participate. Weekly assignments to be distributed by the instructor will include two types of tasks: a) Weekly written assignments - take home essay on the topic previously discussed in class ( 1 essay per week) b) Oral presentations at the end of the semester individual reports on a topic chosen by a student and approved by the instructor.
Grading Policy
1) 12 Written essays - 5 points each, total of 60 points 2) Oral presentation at the end of the semester 25 points 3) Class participation and discussion 15 points
