After World War II, Russian expatriates are invite by Stalin to return to Russia and help rebuild the country. But once they return, most are labeled "enemies of the people" and are shot or sent into exile. One returnee, a talented doctor, is allowed to live if he becomes a model Soviert citizen. The adjustments for his French wife, however, are much more difficult.
