International Education Week

UT Austin is excited to be celebrating International Education Week <http://utiew.wordpress.com/> (IEW) next month from November 15 – 19, 2010. Events will include foreign film nights, country and culture sessions, language sessions, art exhibits, music and dance performances, international cuisine, study abroad sessions, travel sessions, and much more!
CREEES is offering three sessions for UT’s International Education Week:
Life at the U.S. Embassy: Perspectives and Tales of Adventure in Kiev and Almaty
CAL 422, 4:00-5:00 p.m. Hosted by the Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (CREEES)
The first half of this presentation will focus on the basic organizational structure of a US Embassy. Roles of key staff such at the ambassador, deputy chief of mission, foreign service officers, local national employees, the military attaché office and how each of these entities work together as the "Country Team" to implement foreign policy goals of the United States Government will also be discussed. The second half of the presentation will feature the presenter's personal experiences while working at US Embassies in Kiev, Ukraine and Almaty, Kazakhstan. The presenter, Mr. Elliott Nowacky, retired from the US Army in 2008 and is now a second year M.A. candidate at UT's Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies.
