Lecture: "Shamanism - Tradition and Innovation" by Dr. Alexandra Kim-Maloney

        Dr. Alexandra Kim-Maloney is a professor of linguistic anthropology both at Tomsk State University and University of Anchorage Alaska. For decades she conducted research among the natives of Siberia, including Selkup, Khanty, Mansi and Kets. Her most prominent publication is a book on "Selkup Shamanic Cultic Lexicon". She also authored more than a dozen articles and chapters published in Russian, German, English, Hungarian and Finnish language journals and books. Currently Dr. Maloney is carrying on research among natives of Alaska - the  Athabaskan Indians and Inuits, and she is also working with Russian Old Believers in Alaska.

       Dr. Kim-Maloney will give two guest lectures in Dr. Bella Jordan's class on shamanism: "Shamanism - Tradition and Innovation" and "Shamanism in Siberia and Alaska: Comparative Anthropological Perspective" on Tuesday, January 25 and Thursday 27 at 3:30 in Parlin 1.
