Prague is a center of diverse literary, architectural and artistic influences and is a site that gave birth to influential writers such as Jaroslav Hasek, Franz Kafka, and Bohumil Hrabal. Students explore the architecture, distinct districts, monuments, cemeteries, churches and Castle, and consider how these sites have inspired countless writers from around the globe. For most of its history, Prague was not a homogenous Czech city. The rich Jewish history of Prague is a strong component to the explorations, readings and discussions of the program, as are the incorporation of groups such as Roma (Gypsies), Germans, and the currently thriving Vietnamese community. Students explore the diversity of Prague through historic and cultural site visits, and by reading literary works, watching contemporary films, and surveying recent works of art.

Faculty
Dr. Veronika Tuckerova is a Prague native and specializes in Czech/German/Jewish literature of Central Europe. She teaches classes on various aspects of Czech literature, culture and history.
