A first reading of “Dulcey and Roxy at City Hall” - a play specially commissioned for an Austin premier

Play workshop with playwright Maksym Kurochkin & translator John Freedman:

A first reading of Dulcey and Roxy at the City Council

Please join us for the first reading of Dulcey and Roxy at the City Council on Wednesday, November 6th at 8:00 PM at the Off Shoot Theater.

***Playwright Maksym Kurochkin and translator John Freedman will be in attendance.***

A year ago, Breaking String Artistic Director Graham Schmidt visited Moscow as part of an artistic exchange initiative sponsored by the federal government. He met with Maksym Kurochkin - one of Russia's most celebrated living playwrights, whose plays Breaking String has staged with great success here in Austin (Bento Bonchev and Vodka, Fucking and Television), and commissioned a new play from Max, to be developed and premiered right here in Austin.

The intent was to move beyond staging Max's greatest hits in translation, into an active collaboration, informed by Austin audience participation. To that end, Kurochkin and translator John Freedman will visit Austin for a workshop process that will culminate with a free-admission reading of the newly commissioned play, Dulsey and Roxy at the City Council.
