Czech Film Series: One Night in One City/Jedné noci v jednom městě
Thu, April 10, 2014 • 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM • BUR 231
The Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies is proud to announce the eighth screening of the renowned Czech Film Series. All films will be shown every Thursday at 6:30pm in BUR 231.
This week's screening will show One Night in One City/Jedné noci v jednom městě (2007), an adult black-comedy puppet film by award-winning puppeteer Jan Balej. One Night in One City is composed of a number of seemingly disconnected vignettes, all of which are inspired by Prague's bohemian Zizkov neighborhood and take place in a faded apartment block. During the film, a fish and a tree share the Christmas holidays together, various pallid and misshapen residents of the apartment block indulge in hobbies including dead insect circuses, bear hunts in the city, donkey worship, and pet cremations, and two drunks go on a late-night joyride. The film has no dialogue; instead, characters mumble and grunt incomprehensibly.
One Night in One City won the award for Best Art Direction at Czech Lions in 2008.
Films are free and open to the public.*
Films are in Czech with English subtitles.
