Teacher Training Workshop: Siberian Voices!

Lectures by UT Faculty and Curriculum Units developed by K-12 teachers

The Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies is hosting a teacher training workshop on Siberia, with presentations by UT faculty followed by presentations of curriculum units that were developed by Fulbright-Hays recipients of the the Siberian Voices Fulbright-Hays Group Project Abroad.

Saturday, April 26 from 9:30am to 4:00pm

Lunch will be provided. Registration is required - please register using this form.

9:00-9:30 - Coffee and networking

9:30-10:00 - Intro by Dr. Mary Neuburger "Siberian Voices: A CREEES Odyssey"
10:00-11:00 - Dr. Bella Jordan "Siberian Ethnic Republics within an Asymmetrical Federation"
11:00-12:00 - Dr. Craig Campbell "Indigenous Peoples in 20th Century Siberia"
12:00-12:30 - Jason Roberts "Talking about Shamanism and the Beliefs of Others in the Classroom"

12:30-1:30 - Lunch

Presentations of newly developed curriculum by Fulbright-Hays participants
1:30-2:00 - Tricia Pearson, McKinney ISD
2:00-2:30 -  Rozi Salazar, Laredo's United ISD
2:30-3:00 - Nick Stamper, Austin ISD
3:00-3:30 - Shannon Honningblum, Austin Waldorf School

3:30-4:00 - Curriculum development workshop

6 CPU/CPE credits will be issued to attendees!


CREEES would also like to invite participants who wish to experience a taste of Siberian music and culture to our Tuvan throat singing concert with Alash the night before: Friday, April 25 at 7 PM.

Alash is an ensemble from the Republic of Tuva that performs traditional Siberian music using the throat-singing technique and Tuvan instruments, but with a bit of contemporary flavor. More information on Alash can be found at their website or on their Facebook page.
