Russian House is hosting an event featuring three bands, all of whom perform Eastern European-influenced music!

The first band is locally-based Korobushka ("little box" in Russian), which was formed in the summer of 2013 by Austinites who love Eastern European folk music and wanted to create more of it for the local dancers! Their little box of surprises includes songs from Macedonia, Russia, Czech Republic, Serbia, Bulgaria and beyond, and every performance features dance lessons to get you up and moving.

The second band, the “Szkojáni Charlatans" are world traveling folk musicians from the formerly mysteriously disappeared Transylvanian town of Szkoján. Szickán (Accordion, Vocals, Percussion) and Kjartan (Violin, Brács, Vocals, Dance) are the two core members of the ensemble. Their music is of Szkoján with influence from Romani, Romanian, Hungarian, Jewish, Serbian, Bulgarian, and Macedonian musical traditions.

The final performance of the night will be by the G String Orchestra, which is based out of New Orleans, and live most of their lives on the road, and travel and tour in Alaska and Mexico, Europe and everywhere in between. Their music consists of original and traditional tunes influenced by Klezmer, Romani, and Eastern European folk music.
