This lecture explores a number of links between the "nature" of war and peace, woman and man, Russia and Europe as well as between the renowned Austrian peace activist Baroness Bertha von Suttner and Tsar Nicholas II. The setting is the First International Peace Conference in the Hague (1899), and the materials used are contemporary German and Austrian caricatures.
