The Wehrmachts- or Army Exhibition, which was shown in major cities in Germany between 1999 and 2004 challenged ordinary Germans to rethink what their fathers and grandfathers did during the war. Whereas most West Germans had been led to believe that the cold-blooded murder of civilians had been a crime of the Third Reich's SS exclusively, for the first time citizens saw photos and footage of German soldiers gleefully tormenting and executing civilians on the Eastern front. Director Michael Verhoeven films in the killing fields at the former Eastern front and interviews survivors, historians, experts, and citizens, including those who deny the crimes.
Followed by a Question and Answer session with the director, Michael Verhoeven.
