Heidi Brown has been on staff at Forbes for eight years, where she covers Russia, telecommunications, consumer products, and investing. Her recent cover story on Gazprom was nominated for the Business Journalist of the Year Awards in London. She makes occasional appearances on the Fox Network's "Forbes on Fox" TV program and writes for Forbes.com; she also serves as the liaison with Forbes' Russian-language edition and makes annual trips to Moscow.
In the mid-1990s, Ms. Brown lived in Vladivostok, Russia, where she worked as a reporter for the only English-language newspaper east of Moscow. Ms. Brown plans to talk about the challenges of reporting on Russia without relying on stereotypes about the country's problems. The nation's fast economic growth and slide toward totalitarianism have, in fact, uncovered people doing very interesting things. It is the way they survive today that makes a good story.
