Although Slavoj Žižek's emergence on the English-language theory scene coincided with Yugoslavia's disintegration, the Slovene Lacanian has remained relevant in Western thought for far longer than most of his fellow "post-Yugoslav academics." But how? This talk will look for the answer in a well-timed discursive shift in Žižek's writings from an insistent problematizing of the West's patronizing gaze on the Balkans to his latest post-dissident philosophy of anti-antipolitics.
