Directed by Isidor Annensky, 1954
Adapted from Anton Chekhov's 1895 short story, to save her family from disgrace and hunger, a young dowerless girl agrees to marry a rich aristocrat, many years her senior. This new life changes the young girl, however, and having become an unscrupulous woman, she begins to forget about the family she saved. 82 min.
All films are free, open to the public, and have English subtitles.
Screenings are Monday at 7:00 pm in GRG 102 (Geography Building, corner of 24th and Whitis).
