REE 385: LANGUAGE AND LANGUAGE POLICY IN THE CAUCASUS

Once Russian was the "Lingua Franca" of the entire Soviet Union. Since the breakup, former republics must deal with the dichotomy of having both a "native" language and a "working" language. In this course you will consider the issues of assimilation, bilingualism, and the role of language in education, as well as issues of gender, policy, and variations in educational systems.
