The Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies offers an Honors Program for Upper-division REE majors. The Honors Program enables students to demonstrate their research skills and communication capabilities and gives them the opportunity to develop expertise in a social science discipline and/or professional field of their choice.

Candidates who qualify and wish to graduate with Special Honors in Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies should apply to the honors adviser for admission to the honors program during their junior year or first semester of their senior year.

The application deadline is one week before the first registration period in which the student wants to enter the program.  The honors application is available with other Undergraduate Student Forms.

Requirements for graduation with special honors are:

  • REE 679 HA, Honors Tutorial Course: Readings, with a grade of at least B. A Conference course consisting of intensive reading and research, planned with and approved by the Honors adviser.
  • REE 679 HB, Honors Tutorial Course: Thesis. In which a thesis judged "acceptable for honors" is presented; the thesis is to be based on original research. The student selects a thesis adviser from the faculty of the Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies .
  • A University grade point average of at least 3.0, and a grade point average in all Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies courses of at least 3.5. Completion at the University of at least 60 semester hours of coursework counted toward the degree.
All applicants should meet with the Honors Advisor, Dr. Bella Jordan, to discuss their plans.
