WGS 393 • Feminist Theory and Performance
9:30 AM-11:00 AM
The class will focus on feminist performance and theory for the last thirty years. While not explicitly a history class, we will use a loose historical framework to explore how women used performance to explore issues like race, sexuality, community, citizenship, and everyday life. The focus will be on work in the US, although student projects may certainly move outside that framework, and we will take some time to look at globalization and international women's performance responses to it. Readings will be wide ranging and include both performance texts and theoretical works. Students work will include oral presentations and papers.
Student evaluations will be evenly divided among papers, oral presentations, and class preparation.
