Course Description
This course will focus on recent fiction (1950s to 2000s) by seven Italian women writers--some proclaimed feminists, others not--from well-established literary figures, to the lesser-known representatives of a new generation of intellectuals. We will study the novels from the point of view of genre as well as theme and style, and explore the way in which these writers have exploited established literary techniques and conventions to confront concerns specific to them as women in a distinct historical and political situation.
