Course Description

Course fulfills a writing component and cultural component requirement. Students will write four 1,000 word essays on material assigned and discussed in class. Students must maintain e-mail access. Course is structured around documentaries, film and reading material. CONTAINS A SUBSTANTIAL WRITING COMPONENT AND FULFILLS PART OF THE BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT IN WRITING. UPPER-DIVISION STANDING REQUIRED. COURSE NUMBER MAY BE REPEATED FOR CREDIT WHEN THE TOPICS VARY. A HISTORICAL AND SOCIOLOGICAL OVERVIEW OF MEDIA CONSTRUCTIONS OF RACE ETHNICITY, GENDER, CLASS, ISSUES, AND LEADERS. WGS 340 AND W S 340 MAY NOT BOTH BE COUNTED UNLESS THE TOPICS VARY. INCLUDES CROSS-CULTURAL CONTENT. MEETS WITH J 340C (TOPIC 1), MAS 374 (TOPIC 22) AND LAS 322 (TOPIC 10).
