Course Description
Many people think of sexuality as something that is biological and natural, but sociologists argue that society plays an important role in shaping our sexuality. In this course, we will examine how social institutions promote specific beliefs and practices relating to sexual desire and sexual identity. Readings, lectures, and discussions will cover the following themes: social history of sexuality in America; contemporary cultural representations of sexuality; sexual violence; reproduction; work; and sports.
