Course Description

In this course we will write and read about women’s lives, using literary works and psychology and sociology as our base for exploring. In particular, we will examine four stages in a woman’s life: 1) Childhood--growing into a person by first bonding with and then separating from parents, 2) Youth--achieving self-identity and living the dreams of love and romance, 3) Adulthood--achieving fulfillment through marriage, motherhood and career, 4) Old Age--continuing to grow despite declining prospects created by aging or living alone. For each stage we will discuss at least one award-winning autobiography, biography, or literary work. And we will write in response to each stage.
