8) CMHC “Lesbian and Bi” and “Gay and Bi” Support Groups
Lesbian and Bisexual Women's Group - Counseling and Mental Health Center will have a support group for lesbian and bisexual women or for those questioning their sexual orientation. Join other women in a safe environment to gain support related to relationships, coming out, navigating UT, and other concerns. An information session will be held on Monday September 28th at 10am at the CMHC on the 5th floor of the Student Services Building. Call 475-6923 to sign up or for more information.
The Counseling and Mental Health Center at the University of Texas at Austin is also holding a weekly Gay and Bisexual Men’s Group every Wednesday from 3:30-4:45 pm. This is a support and therapy group as well as a safe place to discuss and work though a variety of issues with other gay and bisexual men including, but not limited to, issues with relationships, emotional intimacy, family, coming out, and ‘fitting in.’ A pre-group interview and acceptance to the group are required before attending. If interested, please call the Counseling and Mental Health Center at 471-3515 for more information. Keith Arrington, LCSW, will facilitate the sessions.
9) Voices Against Violence
Voices Against Violence is a student organization dedicated to help educate UT students on issues of relationship violence, sexual violence, and stalking. Our goal is to bring awareness to our campus and to make UT as safe as possible. Starting on Tuesday, September 8, we meet every other Tuesday from 5:00 – 6:30 I the Chicano Culture room of the Texas Union. 10) Call for Volunteers: Conspire Theater
Conspire Theatre (www.conspiretheatre.org) is a new sponsored project of Austin Circle of Theaters. We will be going to TCCF in November to conduct another five week workshop.
Our mission is accomplished through:
• Workshops incorporating games and play
• Original writing (poetry, stories, monologues, songs, plays)
• Communication skills training
• Teamwork skills training
• Self-esteem building activities such as acting, dance, movement, mime, monologue, dramatic interpretation, and character development

11) New Gender Sexuality Center Initiative for Student Parents
The Gender and Sexuality Center is starting a new initiative to provide some resources for student parents on campus. Anne Gaskill has helped begin a monthly meet-up for student parents called Longhorns with Little Horns where current and expecting parents can exchange information and tips on balancing family and academic life. On the horizon for this initiative are also Longhorn Mothers Offering Mentoring (M.O.M.) program, which would pair expectant mothers with student mothers who have successfully made the jump from students to Student-Parents, and the Childcare Assistance for Longhorn Mothers (C.A.L.M.) fund, which would provide childcare tuition assistance of at least $100/month for at least one student in the 2010-2011 Academic Year. 12) The Feminist Action Project
The Feminist Action Project is both a Gender and Sexuality Center initiative and new student organization dedicated to putting on a multi-state conference on feminist activism in spring of 2010. The conference, “Feminist Action Project: Examining Intersections, Building Alliances,” aims to look at the intersectionality within feminisms and communities in order to build bridges and empower both new and veteran activists. 14) "It's time" conference at Texas A&M University
The Texas A&M GLBT Professional Network proudly announces the “It’s Time Conference”
“It’s Time” is an LGBT Conference to be held on the Texas A&M University Campus on March 31st and April 1st of 2010 commemorating the 25th anniversary of the United States Supreme Court decision that forced Texas A&M University to recognize the Gay Student Services as an official student organization. The conference is free and open to the public.
The first day, March 31st, will be an academic critique and exploration of “Queer of Color” scholarly and literary endeavors.
The second day, April 1st, will be a symposium titled “25 Year After: LGBT in Higher Education – The Case of Texas A&M” and will explore how LGBT individuals, interests, and intellectual endeavors have fared, are faring, and will fare in higher education.

19) Vagina Monologue Applications
The UT Women’s Resource Agency will be producing the annual production of Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues” in February 2010. “The Vagina Monologues” is a play that creates awareness about women’s issues while also benefiting local and national organizations that help end violence against women and girls. We invite you to participate in this year’s production spotlighting the sexual violence perpetrated against the women of the Democratic Republic of Congo. We are currently looking for any and all members the UT community who are committed to being part of this movement.
The following positions are available:
Director: Responsible for creative decisions regarding the stage production of “The Vagina Monologues.” Duties will include: casting, weekly meetings, production research, rehearsal scheduling, cast management, retreat planning, and V-Week execution.
Assistant Director: Aid in the duties as outlined by the Director and Producers. The AD must be present at all rehearsals but weekly meetings are optional.
Cast Member: Must attend rehearsals, cast retreat, and V-Week events. Cast members are expected to memorize their lines and be well-prepared at each rehearsal. They must table and promote both the show and the V-Day movement.

The lesbian Catalan novelist Isabel Franc (also known by her pen name of Lola Van
Guardia) will give a public talk in
BEN 2.104 on Monday, November 23rd at 6 p.m.
Isabel Franc first received national recognition in Spain for her novel Entre todas las
mujeres (Tusquets 1992), finalist for the Sonrisa Vertical Prize. She is perhaps best
known today for her humorous Lola Van Guardia novels, including the trilogy, Con
Pedigree (Egales 1997) Plumas de Doble Filo (Egales 1999) and La mansión de las Tríbadas
(Egales 2002), which present the lesbian world of Barcelona from with a decidedly
satirical bent. She has also published a detective novel, No me llames cariño (Egales
2004), winner of the Shangay prize for the best book of 2004., as well as the collection
Cuentos y fábulas de Lola Van Guardia (Egales 2008) and the novel Las razones de Jo
(Lumen, 2005).

Dr. Lysova and Dr. Shchitov will speak about the general crime rate in Russia, as compared with the United States and other countries, but will especially focus on family and intimate partner violence(IPV). They will present information about the prevalence of and risk factors for IPV in Russia. Specifically, Dr. Shchitov and Dr. Lysova will discuss psychological, sexual, and physical violence against women, men, elders, and children. They will also address the question of gender symmetry in the perpetration of IPV based on the results of the International Dating Violence Study and official crime statistics.

For research in the Center's collections. A limited number of two or three month fellowships are available for projects requiring extensive work with the Ransom Center's collections.
TRAVEL STIPENDS • $1,200-$1,700
Travel stipends may be awarded to scholars with research projects that require less than one month's research at the Ransom Center. Awards of $1,200 are available for domestic U.S. travel; $1,700 for foreign travel. There is not a specific required length of residency for travel stipends. The Director of the Women’s Center provides leadership and vision from a feminist perspective, for the overall development of programs and services for the campus Women’s Center. This position also contributes to the strategic direction of Student Diversity and Inclusion, within the unit of Student Affairs, with special attention on the intersection of gender, race, sexual orientation, and other significant aspects of individual and cultural identity. The Director of the Women’s Center will work collaboratively with university and community members and programs, including a diverse Women’s Center Advisory Board, to develop and implement a vision that helps students meet their educational objectives and reflects the overall mission of the Women’s Center. In addition this position provides training, staffing, and some direct service advocacy and crisis intervention for students in need. At a minimum you should have:
· Master's degree in Women’s/Gender Studies, College Student Personnel, Student Development, Student Leadership, Counseling, Social Work, or related field or equivalent professional experience
· Three years experience (volunteer work is acceptable) in a University-based women’s center or in a system or community-based advocacy program
The preferred candidate will have:
· Experience with victim assistance services, advocate training, and/or prevention education programming; preferably in a university setting
· Experience interpreting and working with the JeAnne Clery Act, The Student Right to Know, Campus Security Act, FERPA, and Title IX
Salary and benefits: Salary: $45,000+ DOE. Final salary will depend upon qualifications and experience. YNPN Austin is seeking a project management intern who will support the overall efforts of the YNPN Austin board. This position will play an integral part of the YNPN Board of Directors mission to help young non-profit professionals be successful in the non-profit sector.

This edited collection will assemble scholarly yet accessibly written works
that explore the dimensions of resistance to embodied taboos of all sorts.
We are interested in pieces that describe and analyze the many ways that
humans subvert the social constraints that deem certain behaviors and bodily
presentations as inappropriate, disgusting, private and/or forbidden in

Gender on Our Minds is an interdisciplinary publication dedicated to awareness from the perspective of gender studies. Gender on Our Minds provides a space for marginalized groups to discuss topics and issues such as GLBTIQ identities, academic and queer pedagogy, arts, cultures, histories, politics, and theories.
Submission is open to the general public.
The editors welcome all submissions, but are particularly interested in submissions that contribute to current conversations in gender studies and queer studies.

the University of Massachusetts at Amherst on June 9-12, 2011.
2011 marks the 15th Berkshire Conference on Women's History and the 100th
anniversary of International Women's Day, which was first celebrated in
Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland and is now honored by more than sixty
countries around the globe. The choice of "Generations" reflects this
transnational intellectual, political, and organizational heritage.

The year 2010 marks the 40th anniversary of the formal establishment of Mexican American
Studies in the academy in Texas. Since the early 1970s, many approaches have been
developed and employed in the field of Chicana and Chicano Studies, some focusing on
political economy, others on cultural studies, some focusing on the specificity of the
Tejano experience, others focusing on how Texas fits into the larger experience of
Mexican Americans in the United States and linkages to Mexico and Latin America. Chicana
and Chicano Studies in Texas has drawn from many intellectual approaches and fields, and
struggled to expand the definition of the academy, activism, and intellectual life.
The goal of the 2010 NACCS-Tejas Foco Regional Conference is to examine questions around
a "Texas School" of Chicana and Chicano Studies. We invite scholars of Chicana and
Chicano Studies, members of NACCS, and the general public to submit proposals for
papers, panels, or performances that engage the question of whether there is (or is not)
a Texas-based approach to Chicana and Chicano Studies. Submissions may look at the
past, present, and future of Chicana and Chicano Studies in Texas to outline such a
"Texas School" of thought or may call into question the very idea of such a proposition.
The conference will also consider whether there is more than one school of thought
within Texas.
Proposals for papers, panels, or performances should include a 250-word abstract
(maximum length) and must include full contact information. Paper proposals can come
from individuals or co-authors. Panel proposals must list all participants who have
agreed to serve on the panel. Performance proposals must provide technical requirements.
The deadline for submissions is January 8, 2010.

Keynote speaker: Carmen Ashhurst, former president of Def Jam Recordings and Rush Communications, and author of the forthcoming book, Selling My Brothers: The Movement, The Media and Me
Music has long served social movements as a sound track, as a means of communication and as its own arena for activism. While multiple generations of feminists have used music in these ways, it has played especially vital roles for those born since the 1970’s. This conference will explore the ways in which young feminists have defined and expressed politics through music and musical cultures and communities. Among the question we will ponder are: How does music reflect sites of agreement and conflict among different groups of feminists? How have movements like Riot Grrrl and Hip Hop feminism attracted young women to feminist activism? How do young feminists’ uses of music compare with those of earlier generations?
Please include a short description of each presentation and a one page c.v. for each presenter. Proposals for whole panels or workshops are especially welcome, but we will also consider individual papers.

The University of Texas at Austin's BetaAlpha chapter will be hosting this year's regional conference ans is calling for all graduate and undergraduate original research papers. Participants will be given the chance to present their original research, engage in friendly academic competition, and winners will receive cash prizes. The conference is not limited to only those presenting an original research paper. Participants may attend simply for the chance to gain new knowledge and support their peers.
Register to present a paper related to a topic of historical significance (original research, analysis of art history, economics, or philosophy). 52) Third Annual Women's and Gender Studies Graduate Conference at Stony Brook University.
The Stony Brook Women's and Gender Studies Program is pleased to announce its Third Annual Women's and Gender Studies Graduate Conference, to be held on Saturday March 13th, 2010 at the Stony Brook Manhattan Campus. This conference aims to facilitate academic dialogue between disciplines, and to open a space for us to share and exchange feedback on on a wide range of student work. After two successful conferences in previous years, we are excited to invite graduate students from a variety of disciplines and theoretical positions to submit original papers so that we may again engage each other in invigorating discussion.
This conference aims to generate an interdisciplinary and critical discussion about how gender andsexuality relate to the concept of the cycle. Papers are invited from all disciplines and theoretical

Feminist Review is one of Palgrave's most widely distributed and sucessful

Special Issue of Feminist Review - 'Media transformations'
Call for papers
Boundaries between production and consumption, and between previously
discrete media practices are dissolving. This special issue of 'Feminist
Review' will analyse how rapid shifts in contemporary media processes and
practices are impacting on women's engagement with communications and
production as well as the representation of marginalized groups. Current
developments such as Web 2.0, networking, online distribution and mobile
media will be explored in the context of gendered histories of media
production and reception.
The intention is to look at change and continuity in the uses, practices,
aesthetics and theorization of the media in the light of the growth of new
pervasive technologies. We are hoping that the issue will explore the
following questions: How do new media technologies affect gendered
authorship and agency? How does age and generation intersect with gender
with respect to the uses of 'old' and 'new' media? What cultural and
historical variations are there in terms of the meanings and impact of
media and communications technologies?
Illustrated, reflective pieces by digital media practitioners are welcome
and samples of work discussed may be uploaded to the Feminist Review
website.
Possible topics might include:
'alternative' media and feminist activism; networked cultures; gender,
life histories and blogs; gender and authorship; women's cinema;
questions of distribution; media employment; 'post-convergence'; ethics
and representation; media processes; gender and media education
Submissions for the issue are welcomed from now until 30 March 2010.
Articles should be between 6,000-7,000 words in length. An abstract of
200-300 words should accompany the article, plus a list of up to six
keywords suitable for indexing and abstracting services. Detailed

We also welcome shorter
pieces of creative or analytical writing (up to 1000 words, or 4000 words
