a talk by J. Bob Alotta, Executive Director of Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice
J. Bob Alotta will describe the recent activities of the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice both within and outside the U.S. Based on her experiences with these multiple sites of organizing, she will discuss the ongoing value of lesbian feminist legacies for envisioning social justice in the twenty-first century.
Astraea is a global foundation which provides financial support to lesbian-led, trans, LGBTI and progressive organizations around the world. A lifelong activist and accomplished filmmaker, Bob served for four years as the Board Chair of FIERCE, a longtime Astraea grantee partner and effective policy advocate working to build the leadership and power of LGBTQ youth of color. Prior to joining Astraea, Bob was Director of Digital Media and Content at Zeitbyte Digital Media and the Director of Digital Technology for Film at Columbia University’s School of the Arts. Bob’s documentary and narrative films have aired on Democracy Now, GRITtv and PBS and have screened at festivals in the United States, Canada, Europe and the Middle East.
