Debra Zimmerman has been Executive Director of Women Make Movies,
A national nonprofit organization devoted to supporting women filmmakers, since 1983.
During her tenure Women Make Movies has become the largest distributor of films by and about women in the world.
Films from Women Make Movies’ Distribution and Production Assistance Program have been nominated or won prizes at the Academy Awards and the Sundance Film Festival in five of the last six years.
As RTF’s 18th Guest Lecturer in Gender and Sexuality, Debra will be speaking about
the history of Women Make Movies, how it has changed the landscape for
women’s media, and the current status of women’s filmmaking both in the independent sector as well as in Hollywood.
