  *   Mon. 1/27 at 4 p.m.: Obejas will deliver the lecture "A Queer State of Things in Cuba: How the Cuban Government Co-Opted the LGBT Movement" in CLA 1.302B.


  *   Tues. 1/28 at 12:30 p.m.: Obejas will read from and discuss her acclaimed novel Days of Awe in CLA 1.302B. Lunch provided for those who RSVP to galit@austin.utexas.edu by 1/21.

Achy Obejas is a novelist, poet, translator, journalist, and LGBT activist. She was born in Havana and spends considerable time on the island. She is the author of, among other books, the award-winning novel Days of Awe and the poetry collection This is What Happened in Our Other Life. She is also a prolific translator and produced the Spanish version of Junot Diaz's The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. Obejas is currently Writer in Residence at Mills College in Oakland, California.
