WGS Professionalization Brown Bag for Graduate Students: Funding

Wed, September 7, 2005 • 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM • WWH 407

This new series invites graduate students from any department who identify themselves as women's and gender studies scholars or whose projects are in conversation with women's and gender studies to hear and talk with faculty members addressing various issues of professionalization specific to interdisciplinary women's and gender studies graduate students. We intend this venue to be a place to share and access resources and information about the academic profession that may not be part of standard graduate curricula. The brown bags take place on the first Wednesday of each month, 11:30-12:30 in the Center for Women's and Gender Studies conference room (WWH 4th floor). We continue the series with a brown bag on funding, and we invite graduate students to come and talk with Martha Selby (Asian Studies), Carolyn Eastman (History), and Cynthia Buckley (Sociology). These three faculty members all have experience securing fellowships and grants for their work and advising graduate students on funding applications, and they will share their experiences with funding applications and their advice for graduate students seeking to find funding for their work. Please bring your lunch and join us to find out more about the world of academic publishing. If you have questions, please email Kristen Hogan at meridian@mail.utexas.edu or Reena Patel at reenap_70@hotmail.com ** If you are interested in helping to plan future WGS Professionalization Brown Bags, please join us at the Center for Women's and Gender Studies Conference Room at 11:00 on Wednesday, September 7, before the Funding Brown Bag, to discuss future topics, speakers, and student coordinators. **
