"Gender, Technology, and the Girl's Gaze: Female Youth and Film Production"
Fri, September 28, 2007 • 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM • PAR 201
Part of a much larger project on contemporary girl-made media in the United States, this presentation examines the relationship of female youth and film production. With close attention to gender and technology, this talk explores the barriers that have historically limited girls' access to and interest in this cultural practice, as well as those factors contributing to the increase in girls' filmmaking since the early 1990s. Also addressed are the common discursive themes that appear in girls' movies, and the possible effects of their filmmaking practices on women's media culture.
