WGS Student Conference

This conference provides an opportunity to share research with undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty affiliates of Women’s and Gender Studies from all departments.  The Center’s annual theme for 2009-2010 is “Performing Gender” but research on any aspect of the study of gender and/or sexuality is welcome.

This is the student run conference of CWGS, not to be confused with any other conference.

Please note that presenting and participating in the student conference is one of the requirements of the Women’s and Gender Studies Portfolio Program. In order to ensure an audience for all other papers, participants are requested to attend a minimum of two other sessions.

Each panel will be chaired by a faculty affiliate of CWGS. All participants must be registered students at a recognized university and must be available to present their papers at any time during the day on Friday, February 19, 2009.

We invite submissions for individual papers and panels of up to four papers. All applicants must submit a completed application form, an abstract of no more than 250 words, and the application fee of $20 for UT undergraduates, $25 for UT graduate students, or $30 for non-UT students.

To submit a paper or panel by email: please send an attachment in Word or PDF format containing a 250-word abstract and a completed application form (available at: http://www.utexas.edu/cola/centers/cwgs/) for each paper presenter or panel participant to mleamott@gmail.com.

The subject line of the email must read "Attn: CWGS Conference Organizer.” Application fee must be received at address listed below at the time of deadline in order for the submission to be considered.

To submit a paper or panel in a hard copy format: please send four (4) copies of all abstracts, one (1) application form, and application fee to: Graduate Student Conference Committee, Center for Women and Gender Studies, The University of Texas at Austin, 405 W. 25th St., Suite 401, Austin, Texas  78705.

CWGS will accept submissions via email - please contact Michelle Mott at mleamott@gmail.com - but payment by check or money order is required for consideration. Submissions will not be considered until application fee is received. Late payments will not be accepted.

NO MONEY WILL BE COLLECTED ON THE DAY OF THE CONFERENCE.

Your application must include this form and 4 copies of a 250-word abstract. At the top of your abstract, list your university or college, department, your paper title, and your presentation preference (paper, poster, or panel), but NOT your name.
