Would you like to become a faculty affiliate to the Center for Women's & Gender Studies?
You can become affiliated with CWGS several different ways:
Basic involvement with CWGS is as a Faculty Affiliate. Faculty affiliates may offer courses in women’s and gender studies, and/or engage in research work on women, gender, or sexuality. Affiliates also include faculty who have a scholarly or personal interest in the area of women and gender. Faculty Affiliates receive information on our activities throughout the year via the faculty list serve and the weekly email bulletin. Faculty Affiliates are also eligible to vote for and stand for the Steering Committee. The Steering Committee is the main governance body for CWGS.
Graduate Studies Committee members are on the list of faculty eligible to supervise master’s degree theses in Women’s and Gender Studies. GSC members also participate in policy decisions concerning the CWGS graduate program - e.g. changing the requirements for the master’s degree program. GSC members vote on proposed program changes. Ballots are circulated via email or campus mail. There are generally one or two GSC meetings a year.
Members with courtesy appointments will be listed as having 0% FTE in Women’s and Gender Studies. The primary purpose of the zero-percent appointment is to have CWGS participate in promotion reviews for our faculty. As CWGS faculty, those with courtesy appointments may ask the Executive Committee and the Director to participate in their promotion reviews for tenure. The Executive Committee deals with tenure and promotion reviews for faculty with a zero-percent or greater appointment in CWGS. Courtesy appointment status may also make it easier for faculty to teach core courses in WGS. Courtesy appointment requests are reviewed by the Center before they are granted.
