Graduate Awards
Applications must be received by 5pm on February 25th in WWH 401 (Campus Club). You may send in materials via US Mail. Email submissions will not be accepted. For more information or to obtain a paper application for either award, call the Center for Women's and Gender Studies office at 471-5765.
Ellen Clarke Temple Award In the Study of Women in History
Description
This award is to provide support for graduate students of Liberal Arts for support of student’s travel, research, and other similar needs in the study of the history of U.S. women.
Eligibility
To be eligible, an applicant must be a full-time graduate student at The University of Texas at Austin in good standing.
Selection Criteria
Preference will be given to those concentrating their studies on some aspect of women in Texas history. Secondary preference will be given to students concentrating their studies on some aspect of women in American history, looking first to the Southwest region of the United States. The award will be presented at the annual Women’s and Gender Studies Spring Reception in late April/early May, date TBA.

Application forms are available upon request from Women’s and Gender Studies, WWH 401 or call Women’s and Gender Studies 471-5765.
Please send to the Women's and Gender Studies Office:
- A signed application form (three copies)
- A two-page statement of research activities (three copies). Indicate research questions, its significance, and the current state of the research project.
- One-page budget (three copies) not to exceed $3,000. Indicate the purposes of the funds in terms of furthering the research project and/or disseminating the research.
- Letter of recommendation from a faculty member addressing the value of the student’s research project and the ability of the student to complete the project successfully or to disseminate the research. The letter should be sent directly to the Center for Women’s and Gender Studies.

APPLICATION DUE BY February 25th 2008
Women's and Gender Studies Dissertation Fellowships
Description
This is a fellowship for doctoral students writing dissertations on topics related to women’s and gender studies. Students who are enrolled in the WGS Ph.D. Portfolio Program are eligible. There is approximately $2000 available. One or two awards will be made, as determined by the selection committee. The awards will be announced at the Women’s and Gender Studies Spring Awards Reception in late April/early May, date TBA. Funds will be available the following fall semester.
Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must be full-time graduate students in good standing at The University of Texas-Austin, must be in doctoral candidacy no later than August 15th 2008 and be enrolled as a WGS Ph.D. Portfolio student by February 25th 2008. Information on the WGS Portfolio Program is available online.
Selection Criteria
Preference will be given to those completing their dissertation by August 2009. Applications will be reviewed on the following criteria:
- Letter of recommendation from dissertation chair;
- Contributions of the project to the field of Women's and Gender Studies;
- Soundness of research design;
- Ability of the student to complete the project as a dissertation; and
- Quality of the proposal.

- A one to two page vita (three copies)
- A signed application form (three copies)
- A two-page description of the dissertation project (three copies)
- A separately submitted letter of recommendation from the dissertation adviser emphasizing why this dissertation topic is relevant to Women’s and Gender Studies, your ability to carry out the project, and the faculty member’s working relationship with you on the project.
Application materials must be properly collated into three packets. Applications are due by February 25th 2008.
