HISTORY PROFESSOR RECEIVES BEST FIRST BOOK AWARD
Carolyn Eastman, an assistant professor in the Department of History, won the James Broussard Best First Book Prize from the Society for Historians of the Early American Republic.

In the book, "A Nation of Speechifiers: Making an American Public after the Revolution," Eastman argues that ordinary men and women gave meaning to American nationhood and national belonging by first learning to imagine themselves as members of a shared public, according to the publisher, the University of Chicago Press.
