Women's Human Rights Curricula

students on campus

A central focus of the CWGS Women’s Rights Initiative is curriculum infusion in existing courses and creation of new courses both at the university and in Texas high schools.

Coursework in Women, Gender, & Human Rights

For a view of the ongoing courses in women’s human rights taught by CWGS faculty, take a look at the CWGS Guide to Research and Teaching for Women’s Human Rights here: https://webspace.utexas.edu/meridian/public/CWGSGuide/

The Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice has compiled lists of Spring 2011 courses related to human rights:

Signature Courses on Women, Gender, & Human Rights

As a curriculum project of the CWGS Embrey Women’s Human Rights Initiative (EWHRI), CWGS solicited proposals for interdisciplinary, team-taught, large-section Signature Courses on women, gender, and human rights. These courses will generate faculty engagement with women's human rights frameworks in university education, build student literacy in women's human rights, and support the next generation of women's human rights advocates.

In December 2010, our Grant Committee selected the first round of three Signature Courses to be developed by faculty with the support of the EWHRI. These courses will be available beginning Spring 2011.

  • Gender Development and the Media: Rebecca Bigler (Psychology) and guests
  • Sex and the Russian City: Jennifer Beer (Pscyhology), Tatiana Kuzmic (Slavic Studies)
  • Women for Sale? Faculty: Noël Busch (Social Work), Laurie Cook-Heffron (Social Work), Bruce Kellison (Business)
