Korea Seminar: Victor Cha

The Center is pleased to welcome Dr. Victor Cha, Senior Advisor and Korea Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and Director of Asian Studies and the D.S. Song-Korea Foundation Chair at the Department of Government and Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University. Victor Cha will be presenting a talk entitled "What does North Korea Want?"

Dr. Cha served as a Director for Asian Affairs at the White House, National Security Council from 2004 to 2007. At the NSC, he was responsible for Japan, the two Koreas, Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Island nations. He also served as the U.S. Deputy Head of Delegation for the Six Party Talks. Dr. Cha received two Outstanding Service commendations during his tenure at the White House. He is also a recipient of numerous academic awards including the Fulbright Scholarship and MacArthur Foundation Fellowships.

He has acted as a consultant on East Asian security issues for different branches of the U.S. government, and is a frequent contributor and guest analyst for various media including CNN, National Public Radio, New York Times, Washington Post, Time, Newsweek, Asahi Shimbun, Japan Times, Choson Ilbo, and Joongang Ilbo. His publications include Alignment Despite Antagonism: The United States-Korea-Japan Security Triangle, Nuclear North Korea: A Debate on Engagement Strategies, and Beyond the Final Score: The Politics of Sport in Asia. He's currently under contract to publish Power Play: The Origins of the American Alliance System in Asia through the Princeton University Press.
