Dr. George Solt, New York University
George Solt, Assistant Professor of History, New York University
Solt's work considers the connections between the political economic transformation and social reorganization of Japan in the modern era. His dissertation, “Taking Ramen Seriously: Food, Labor, and Everyday Life in Modern Japan,” analyzed changes in food production and consumption in relation to shifts in labor practices, nutritional science, media advertisements, foreign trade, and national identity. He is currently revising a manuscript based on the dissertation, and researching materials for a second project on the history of gambling in modern Japan.
