Japan, Taiwan, statistical analyses of inequalityBiography
Sakamoto's areas of interest include social stratification, economic sociology, and racial/ethnic relations. He teaches courses on social stratification and statistics. He is currently doing research on productivity and earnings inequalities as well as on the socioeconomic attainments of Asian Americans.
His recent publications include “Is Rising Earnings Inequality Associated with Increased Exploitation? Evidence for Manufacturing Industries in the United States, 1971-1996” (in Sociological Perspectives), “Socioeconomic Attainments of Asian Americans” (in Annual Review of Sociology), “The Rise of Intra-Occupational Wage Inequality in the United States, 1983-2002” (in American Sociological Review), and "The Effects of Absolute and Relative Incomes on Job Satisfaction among Male Workers in Japan" (in Sociological Focus).
