Japanese Language Program Receives External Funding
Posted: September 22, 2011
The Japanese language program in the Department of Asian Studies has received a Japanese-Language course assistance grant from the Japan Foundation (http://www.jpf.go.jp/e/). Kirsten Cather, Assistant Professor in the Department of Asian Studies and Project Director for the grant application, notes that the funds received will allow for the employment of an additional Japanese language lecturer in 2011-12 and beyond. More students will be able to take Japanese as a result. Japanese is the largest Asian language program at the University of Texas and is commonly oversubscribed.
CEAS would like to congratulate and express its thanks to Professor Cather. We are grateful as well to Joel Brereton, Chair (2007-11) of the Department of Asian Studies, and to Salwa Uzri, Office Manager of the Department, for their help in preparing the grant application.
