Scholarship

CES offers a study abroad scholarship each fall, spring, and summer for European Studies majors who are attending an approved* study abroad or internship program. Awarded funds may be used for transportation or to cover a portion of the tuition or costs associated with the program.

A hard copy of the scholarship application must be turned into the Center (Mezes 3.126) by 5:00 p.m. on the deadline date or the Friday preceding if the deadline falls on a weekend.

The application must be accompanied by:

  1. a two-page statement of purpose, describing your proposed study abroad or internship, how it fits into your EUS major (and any other fields of study at UT) and future plans, and what you expect to gain from the experience.
  2. an official copy of your transcript or transcripts
  3. an estimated budget of your costs for the term of study or internship, including transportation, housing, meals, and tuition if applicable
  4. a list of other financial resources available to you or for which you are applying to fund this study/internship in Europe (other scholarships or fellowships, grants, loans, etc.)

In addition, you must request letters of recommendation from two faculty members at UT or another academic institution which you have attended in the past two academic years. One of these letters MUST be from a faculty member in your major department at UT. These letters should not be attached to the application but rather should be submitted directly by the faculty members via e-mail to the Center (ces@austin.utexas.edu.). It is up to the student to verify that letters are received by the Center by the deadline date.

Application deadlines:

Fall:        March 15

Spring:    October 15

Summer: February 15

*Programs must be approved by the Director of CES, Dr. Douglas Biow.
