Truly something new under the sun, a category-exploding whatsit that's nevertheless so seductive and effortlessly compelling from moment to moment as it wanders between different cinematic realms. Though he has no funding or actors to shoot his screenplay, director Miguel Gomes nevertheless carts his crew to rural Portugal where he starts filming local music festivals and creates a story about a family of pop musicians. Blending fiction with documentary elements as he follows both the festivals and the travails of the film crew, Gomes weaves an innovative tale focused on the unusual relationships between a musical dad, daughter and nephew.
