Dr. Lisa Rofel

Dr. Rofel's research focuses on public culture, political economy, and private life in contemporary China. She is the author of "Other Modernities: Gendered Yearnings in China after Socialism" and "Desiring China: Experiments in Neoliberalism, Sexuality and Public Culture."
The Distinguished Lecture in China Studies is made possible by a generous gift from Dr. Paul Ho, who holds the Cockrell Family Regents Chair in Engineering, and Mrs. Mary Ho, a Chinese language specialist and former lecturer in the Department of Asian Studies. The lecture aims to extend and deepen understanding of China in the University community and among the general public. The lecture is free and open to the public.
