Dr. Adams awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to study national and regional identity in Norway and Finland
Dr. Paul C. Adams from the Department of Geography and the Environment has been awarded a Fulbright Research Fellowship for fall semester 2010. He will be hosted by the Department of Information Science and Media Studies at the University of Bergen and will lecture in several geography departments in Finland. His project is called “Nordic Identity in Online Discourses.” The study will address ways in which Norwegians and Finns balance their attachments to the local community, the nation, the Nordic region and Europe. The research will sample online discourses to see how discussions and debates by ordinary people mobilize various scales of identity formation, and how they disregard or dissolve other scales of identification. He is supported in addition by a Supplemental College Research Fellowship from the College of Liberal Arts.
