New Associate Director Joins CES

Born in Portugal, Mariah obtained her PhD in Anthropology and Archaeology in 1998 and she is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Texas in Austin. Her research focuses on Native Americans in the Greater Southwest during the colonial period. Mariah is the author of several works that address Native American issues, including The Native Americans of the Texas Edwards Plateau, 1582-1799 (2003), and Missions, Missionaries and Native Americans: Long-Term Processes and Daily Practices (Fall 2008). Mariah is involved also in prehistoric and historical research in Europe and she will be leading an archaeological field school in Portugal in the summer of 2009.
