Kathryn Paige Harden

Biography

Paige Harden received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Virginia, and completed her clinical internship at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Her primary research interest is developmental psychopathology. She studies the interplay between genetic factors and family and social environments in shaping atypical adolescent development. Her research tests causal theories about the etiology of adolescent psychopathology using sophisticated quantitative methods and a broad variety of behavioral genetic designs. Dr. Harden is particularly interested in the development of externalizing problems, such as delinquency, alcohol and substance use, and risky sexual behavior. Recent research has examined a number of environmental risk and protective factors for externalizing problems, including parental psychopathology, marital conflict, biological father absence, peer groups, religious involvement, and neighborhood population density. A secondary line of research focuses on interactions between socioeconomic status and genetic influences on intelligence. Dr. Harden's recent research has been published in Child Development, Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, Journal of Youth and Adolescence, Journal of Abnormal Psychology, and Behavior Genetics.
