Computing Services
Resources
UNIX
The UNIX computing resources at the PRC revolve around a Quad Processor SunFire V440 Compute server with 16GB of memory and over 1.5TB of storage space. PRC students, faculty, and staff can access this server from any PRC workstation via Exceed on Demand. There are several other servers that are set up for network administrative services.
PC Workstations and Windows Servers
The PC network at The PRC utilizes several Windows Servers as file, application, and web content servers. Our Windows Server farm is made up primarily of Dell PowerEdge 2650 systems. The servers utilize Dual XEON 2.4GHz processors, at least 1GB of memory and combined offer our users over 600 GB of file storage space. The client workstations generally have Pentium III based processors or better, 256MB of memory, and 10-20GB of local storage space and run Windows 2000. Power Macintosh computers are also supported on the PRC Network.
Backup systems
Computing and Information Services is committed to a data backup schedule that best serves our users. Data is backed up nightly and maintained on a retention schedule that follows the guidelines of The University Records Retention Schedule.
Printing Resources
Network accessible printers are available on each of the six floors occupied by The Center. They are accessible both from the UNIX and Windows Networks. In addition, several of the faculty and staff have printers connected locally to their desktop systems.
