Cash Advances
Cash Advances can be used for three purposes:
- Off-site Research Expenses
- Subject Fees
- Travel
The minimum amount for cash advance requests is $1000.00. Requests for cash advances must come from the PI of the grant, even if the request is for another person working on the research project. UT requires a three week lead time to process a cash advance request and you are required to return any unspent funds, or funds for which you do not have a receipt.
A cash advance is the preferred mechanism for handling subject payments for data collection studies. The cash advance can be used for cash or check payments to study participants, as well as for gift certificates or other items distributed to study participants. If you request a cash advance for this purpose, you will be required to maintain a log of payment distributions to study participants. Click here for a sample log. The log is turned into Sylvia Celedon, along with receipts for obtaining gift certificates or other gifts.
A cash advance can also be used for travel and off-site research expenses. If you request a cash advance for either purpose, you are required to turn in receipts and a detailed log of expenditures.
Please contact service@prc.utexas.edu to request a cash advance. Include a brief budget in your request.
